What’s the stone...

2009-11-06 by LeiYi Trading

In our lives, everywhere we can bring into contact with the stone, but in large measure we aren’t familiar with the stone for overall .For the following, Let’s comprehensive understanding of the stone all-round.

The stone is unique in color, texture, durability and porosity. The colors are vary from the softest pinks to fiery reds. The purest whites to deep ocean blues. Dark emerald greens to jet blacks. The patterns can be soft and subtle or they can be BOLD ATTENTION grabbers. They not only have black, grey, green, rusty, yellow, grey-white, white, red and pink and other different colors, but also have the different textures to meet the designer a wide range of design options and customer demand for individuality. Each and every natural stone is unique.

Natural stones are considered to be the oldest building material known to man. The use of natural stone materials adds both permanence and elegance to modern construction. Any natural stone, or combination of natural stones, will enhance your building space with an aesthetically pleasing image while providing high performance with low maintenance. Natural stone is a good construction material. A range of high quality natural stone products for the city construction around the world. Construction of streets, squares, buildings. Stone isn't just for countertops. It's used for inside of our homes and in the restaurants where we eat. It's used on the exteriors of commercial buildings and for the headstones. Natural stone is also used for fireplaces, flooring, sinks, bars, accents.... We offer an exclusive collection of beautiful stone products that are intricate art pieces and can be used to enliven any corner of the house. If you can imagine it, you can use stone . Some stones, such as granite, work best for countertops. Others are more ideal for flooring.

In our life, there are many stone we often referred as Granite, Limestone, Marble, Quartzite, Travertine, Slatestone, Sandstone, Basalt and so on. The following will be introduced one by one.

Granite

Word granite comes from the Latin granum, a grain, is an igneous rock and is formed from magma. Granite is massive, hard and tough, and therefore it has gained widespread used as a construction stone. The properties of granite, that make it as the ideal stone surface, its hardness and inherent resistance to acid which means granites are not ‘attacked” by the acids normally present in foods and cleaning products. Granite has been extensively used as a dimension stone and as flooring tiles in public and commercial buildings and monuments. Polished granite is also a popular choice for kitchen countertops due to its high durability and aesthetic qualities. It comes in many natural colors depending on their chemistry and mineralogy.

Limestone

Limestone is a sedimentary rock formed by the cementing together of naturally accumulated rock fragments and organic sediments via a chemical process in shallow prehistoric marine environments. Limestone varies in degrees of hardness, the densest stones can be polished to a very high gloss finish. Limestone is less resistant than most igneous rocks, but more resistant than most other sedimentary rocks. The most common colors are beige, gray, white, yellow and brown. Limestone is readily available and relatively easy to cut into blocks or more elaborate carving. Limestone is quite durable, and with proper installation and maintenance some types can perform extremely well, even in high traffic areas.。

Marble

Marble is a metamorphic, crystalline rock formed by the intrusion of an igneous rock into a limestone mass, is a nonfoliated metamorphic rock resulting from the metamorphism of limestone. The heat and pressure of such an event alters the original molecular structure of the calcite present in the limestone and causes re-crystalization of the calcite and the formation of new minerals. The result is marble with much appreciated, characteristics of heavy veining and wide range of colors. Its natural composition makes marble an easy target for acids normally found in food and cleaning products. The acids etch the marble surface damaging the polished finished. The acids etch the marble surface damaging the polished finished 。With proper maintenance, using neutral products, marble performs extremely well。Marble is used for wall cladding, roofing and flooring and a variety of other interior and exterior applications, but is not recommended for use in kitchens.

Quartzite

Quartzite is a hard, metamorphic rock which was originally sandstone. Quartzite is very resistant to chemical weathering and often forms ridges and resistant hilltops. The nearly pure silica content of the rock provides little to form soil from and therefore the quartzite ridges are often bare or covered only with a very thin soil and little vegetation. Often they rock has a granular appearance on a weathered surface, but along a broken surface the sand grains are usually split. Also, unlike most of the nondescript rocks, quartzite has a glassy luster.

Travertine

Travertine is sedimentary rock, composed almost entirely of calcium carbonate, formed by the accumulation of calcium carbonate deposited by hot springs. Travertine is distinguished from other sedimentary rocks by its “spongy” texture and large number of holes, varying in size and shape. Travertine colors are usually light ivory and beige, but impurities and iron compounds found in the stone are responsible for the creation of reds, yellows and dark brown colors. Travertine is durable and performs well in all types of applications but must be properly sealed and maintained. The distinctive holes may be filled or left natural (unfilled) according to its proposed application desired aesthetic appeal.

Slatestone

Slate is a fine grained metamorphic rock formed from clay, sedimentary rock shale and sometimes quartz. The availability of slate in various colors including gray, black, brown, green, red, or purple makes it further suitable for commercial use such as blackboards, flagstone, and roofing tiles. Slate is a hard stone but brittle which will break easy into smooth slabs, which can be made into roofing slates, also called roofing shingles. They are often used for interior and exterior flooring or wall cladding. Tiles are installed and set on mortar and grouted along the edges.

Sealants are often used on tiles to improve durability and appearance, increase stain resistance, reduce efflorescence, and increase or reduce surface smoothness。Generally, tabletops for the best pool tables are made of slate.

Sandstone

Sandstone is a sedimentary rock composed mainly of sand-size mineral or rock grains. Sandstone comes in many colors but the most common are brown, gray, tan, yellow, red, and white, which makes it further suitable for domestic and commercial use. Owing to its architectural properties and natural beauty ,sandstone is used for interior as well as exterior decoration. It is used to pave floors, clad walls and a wide range of handcrafted products like sculptures, frames, furniture, jewelry boxes, stands, garden ornaments, flower vases and many other decorative items. Sandstone when laid as building stone gives one of the most magnificent look.

Basalt

Basalt is an igneous rock, formed during volcanic eruptions from the hot lava coming out of a volcano. Basalt is very dark in color that is made of many dark colored minerals such as pyroxene and olivine. Basalt also contains some light colored minerals such as feldspar and quartz, but the amounts are small. Typically, you can't see most of the mineral crystals without using a microscope because quick cooling prevents large crystals from forming. The strange of Basalt is its vesicular and natural, seeing from its cutting surface , the holes are much bigger in the upper and smaller downwards and more highly concentrated. This kind of stone material has the special features which other stone material doesn’t have for its individual holes, such as sound absorption and insulation, heat insulation and reserve, frozen proof etc. It has good sightseeing for the continuous big and small holes, with primitive simplicity and elegant style. Every environmental test of this stone is all fine under very strict inspections, it is green environmental building material. It also has features of sour and alkali proof, can be used in many areas. Like other stones, basalt is an age-old material, probably best known to most of us in the form of cobblestone paving of roads and pathways.

Through the above introduction, we have a basic understanding of stone.Would like to learn more, please continue to pay attention to our website. Your concern make we move forward. Welcome your suggestions.
